Our motto here is Random Nature Pleasantly Captured. We hope that these unique and pleasant scenes from the world around us increase your enjoyment of life. It is a cool and windy day in January. We live in northwestern Virginia, and have four true seasons, equally spread throughout the year. Also fairly equally distributed is precipitation. That is lucky for us and we are in a moderate and temperate growing zone. Lots of plants grow here and we try to plant and keep those native to our area. In our yard we have over a hundred species of plants from a wild strawberry ground cover, to ninebark and winterberry shrubs, dogwoods, maples, Redbuds, cherries, apples alongside hollies, yews, and junipers. From early Spring through late Fall a rainbow of colors from the perennials and annuals splashes across the garden. More plant diversity means more animal life – the big 3 here are the bees, butterflies and birds. Today these birds: Northern Cardinals with their vermillion crests, squawking Blue Jays bullying at the feeder, demure little Dark-eyed Juncos, Squat Mourning Doves, and chirping Downy Woodpeckers to start. 1/10/24
